Donegal/Meath duo Cara Ward and Ruth Teeling aim to get everyone dancing with an infectious new song, out today.
Close To You is the third single from the indie band ‘The Hopeful Kind’ and their first self-produced track.
The pop-rock number was written by Cara and recorded in London as well as Cara’s native Dungloe.
“Close To You embodies the reality of having to quarantine from loved ones close, and afar and how the connection of love is one we simply cannot be without!” said Cara and Ruth.
The band travelled to London in April to record with Orla Foley, a music engineer from County Meath. After receiving the tracks back, they spent time in Cara’s house in Dungloe finishing the song. They added more guitars and vocals and even enlisted the help of family and friends for some singing.
Cara said: “The song itself proves to conjure the emotions of quite a difficult time when I could only really speak to friends and family via zoom-calls and online.
“Love itself, can feel like a drug – and being apart from people you love, there are almost – withdrawal like – symptoms you go through. It becomes too much at times when you go without it.
“Close To You was one of those songs that just falls out of you. I wrote it within twenty minutes. And it just shows when there is a lot to feel, there can be a lot to sing about.”
