A plaque dedicated to one of Donegal’s best known maternity nurses, Peggy Harkin, will be unveiled in Letterkenny this Sunday.
The popular midwife was a familiar figure cycling around her home town while visiting mothers and delivering babies in the locality from the 1930’s to the late sixties.
She lived in Lower Main Street and is, and was, the subject of many stories from residents who remember her visiting their homes.
The plaque has been erected by the Letterkenny Community Heritage Group who are inviting everybody interested to the unveiling at 79 Lower Main Street on Sunday at 3pm.
Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Station House Hotel.
