It has been over 400 years since two of Ireland’s greatest chieftains, Red Hugh O’Donnell and Hugh O’Neill, fought side by side for Ireland’s freedom in what is known in Irish history as ‘The Nine War’.
On Saturday the 26th of October, to celebrate the birthday of Red Hugh O’Donnell, the O’Donnells and the O’Neills will once again be united in Lifford.
The Red Hugh O’Donnell Association from Donegal and the O’Neill Country Historical Society (Dúiche Neill) from Tyrone have organised a very special reunion which will commence at 1pm on Lifford bridge.
Cathaoirleach of Donegal, Clr. Niamh Kennedy and the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane Cllr Lilian Seenoi Barr will be in attendance along with other cross border representatives.
Chairman of the Red Hugh O’Donnell Association, Mr. Eddie Crawford, extends a warm welcome to interested groups, societies, national schools, sports clubs and especially the young people of the area, both local and cross border.
