A serving member of the Irish Defence Forces has been ordered to make a €250 donation to charity after being threatening and abusive to Gardai.
The case of Darragh White was called at Letterkenny District Court today.
The 31-year-old soldier is charged with two offences while on a night out in Letterkenny earlier this year.
He is charged with threatening and abusive behaviour and also being intoxicated in a public place.
The court was told that White, of Loughanure, Annagry, was not in court as he was attending a course in preparation of a tour of duty to Lebanon.
Garda Sergeant Gerard Dalton gave details of the incidents which took place at Lower Main Street in Letterkenny in the early hours of March 10th last.
The court was told that gardai had encountered White at 3.05am and spoke to him as he was very drunk and disorientated.
They encountered him again later that night and he had vomit on his clothing and they spoke to him again.
However, he became aggressive and told Gardai to ‘f*** off’ when approached.
He was arrested and taken to Letterkenny Garda Station and charged.
His solicitor, Mr Michael Gillespie, told the court that his client was a member of the Irish Defence Forces and could not be in court as he was undertaking a course in preparation of a tour of duty in Lebanon.
He added that his client had no previous convictions.
Judge Eiteain Cunningham ordered White to pay a donation of €250 to the Little Blue Heroes charity and adjourned the case until December 9th for a receipt of the payment.
