A nurse will be based at the Fahan Health Centre every Monday and Thursday from this week onwards, following a community campaign to save services in the local area.
Concerns grew earlier this year over rumoured plans to relocate the nurse from Fahan to Buncrana. The fears centred on the creation of a new ‘aligned area’ that will include Buncrana and Muff.
Public health nursing services had been a home-based service or by pre- planned appointment in the Fahan Health Centre.
From today, Monday, the nurse will provide an hour at the Fahan Health Cente from 9am-10am and another hour on Thursdays from 4-5pm.
The ‘Save Fahan Health Centre’ campaigners Carmel Lynch and Jackie Molloy say they will be removing their posters from the centre this evening “with a great sense of pride”.
“Since the beginning of July, when we put ourselves forward to bring back a service that was a huge part of the community, we could not stand by and do nothing,” they said.
“We were up against many an obstacle but we never lost hope we had the best community behind us.”
