A Letterkenny man has avoided a driving ban after undertaking a car on a roundabout and speeding away from Gardaí.
Marcus Crawford was before Letterkenny District Court charged with an incident on September 7, 2024.
Crawford was driving what his solicitor described as a “high-powered car” on the day in question.
A 52-year-old of Glentain Close, Letterkenny, Crawford, Crawford was said to have been spotted by Gardaí undercutting a car on the Polestar roundabout.
Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that Crawford travelled at more than 100km/h in a 60km/h zone.
When Crawford got to the dual carriageway, he hit 120km/h. When stopped he was apologetic and contrite, Sergeant Collins said.
Mr Patsy Gallagher, Crawford’s solicitor, said his client had come off the roundabout in the wrong lane and did not use his indicator.
Mr Gallagher said he was driving his brother’s car which said was “high powered”.
“He should have watched where he was going,” Mr Gallagher said.
Mr Gallagher tendered an apology on behalf of Crawford.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham convicted Crawford of careless driving and fined him €250. Crawford was spared a disqualification on this occasion, Judge Cunningham added.
