Five men have been arrested in Donegal Town, after members of An Garda Síochána were attacked while responding to a public order incident.
The initial disturbances took place outside a premises on Quay Street early on Sunday morning.
Gardaí were called to the scene shortly after 2am, where the first officers who arrived were assaulted.
Backup Garda units were called to the disturbance, with Gardaí deploying what they described as an “incapacitant spray” to subdue the men.
They said in a statement that the use of the spray was “…as part of an escalated response to the public order incidents.”
The five men, aged between their late teens and early twenties, were subsequently arrested and later charged.
A court appearance has been scheduled for the five men at Donegal District Court on the 6th of November.
Gardaí have appealed to anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Donegal Town Garda Station on 074 9740 190.
