It’s been another busy week of competition at the Buncrana Golf Club.
O’Donnell & Friel Take Week 1 in Winter League
The first round of qualifying in the Owen Mc Daid (Roe) Taxi & Mini Bus Hire Winter/Autumn League took place last weekend and with the stormy conditions on Saturday coupled with some difficult pin positions, scoring was never going to be easy. It was no surprise that the best score of the weekend came on Sunday morning with the big hitting Liam O’Donnell (15) and Emmet Friel (20) hitting a fantastic 43 pts in the betterball format. With all players having to play of ¾ of their normal handicaps this pairing played some excellent golf between them to shoot a 4 over par gross score. With one of the weekly prizes now secured Liam and Emmet will be looking forward to next weekend where the pairings will be playing an aggregate score which gives every pairing an opportunity to make up some positions on the qualifying table.
It’s not too late to enter the Winter/Autumn League with 4 weeks of qualifying remaining and plenty of opportunities to get necessary scores returned. This will be the only competitive golf for the next few weekends and there is nothing like competition golf to keep your game sharp.
