Goals, as they say, win games and that was certainly the case today as St Mary’s, Convoy, bombed their way to victory in a thrilling Junior B Football Championship final.
St Mary’s Convoy 3-08
Carndonagh 2-10
The Inishowen side made a brave second-half comeback, clawing back a two goal deficit, but Convoy held out by the finest margins to make it three championships in a row.
Man of the Match, Peter Blake, was the star for the winners with a final tally of 2-06.
Goals from Blake and Brendan Bonner had St Mary’s six points up at half time. However, a goal from Carn’s Michael Noone just after the throw-in gave his side a lifeline.
Blake goaled for the second time for Convoy to stretch the lead back to six. Olan McLaughlin brought Carn back into it with another goal but St Mary’s held out for a hat trick of championship titles.
Blake was full of beans when he spoke to Donegal Daily’s Charlie Collins after the match.
