Plans to refurbish and expand the Waterworld family park in Bundoran have taken a step forward this week with approval from Donegal County Councillors.
A Changing Places toilet facility will be provided as part of the fit-out of new changing rooms at Waterworld, marking an enhancement of accessibility services in the seaside town.
A changing places facility is designed for use by people with complex disabilities that require the help of up to two carers, with extra space and facilities to allow them to use the toilet in a dignified way.
The main element of the Waterworld expansion is a new entrance arrangement at reception, a covered external walkway as well as larger changing facilities to include additional shower and toilet facilities.
There are also plans to change the use of the seaweed baths into a retail, commercial and café/restaurant space with ancillary rooms and services.
Other works include the addition of a two-story escape stair, the demolition of the existing oil tank enclosure to accommodate
the extension, the installation of a pool water holding tank, the remodeling of the upstairs office area, and connection to all public services.
County Councillors approved the works at Monday’s plenary meeting in Lifford.
