Update: 6pm
A large-scale sea search is underway across the north and west coast following reports of a missing person.
Malin Head Coast Guard Station is co-ordinating the operation with Bunbeg Coast Guard, Arranmore RNLI and the Sligo based coast guard Rescue 118.
It’s understood that a missing kayaker has been unaccounted for since Thursday night.
Rescue 118 circled the area around Gola island for two hours after midnight (Friday morning) before returning to base.
Bunbeg Coast Guard and Arranmore RNLI crews resumed the search early this morning.
The search has been expanded to include areas north of Gweedore Bay, particularly around Tory Island.
Dublin’s Rescue 116, UK Coastguard Helicopter RESCUE199 from Prestwick, Scotland and Irish Air Corps CASA Maritime Patrol Aircraft are also assisting the effort.
A rosary has been scheduled for 6pm this Friday evening in St Peter’s Church Milford for the missing person.
