A young Donegal father has been killed in a tragic workplace accident in Australia this morning.
The man, who is in his mid-thirties and from the south west of the county, is believed to have been struck by an excavator in Perth’s northern suburbs.
The incident happened just before midday local time (around 5 am Irish time) while roadworks were taking place.
He sustained serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital where he died a short time later, according to The West Australian.
His family in Donegal have been informed of his tragic death.
The man, a father of one, was engaged to an Irish woman and had been living and working in Western Australia for a number of years.
His brother is also living in the country and is believed to be en-route to Perth.
The local branch of the Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union (CFMEU) said it was the 10th fatality at a construction site in the state this year.
“Our investigations have only just begun,” the union said.
