Saolta has defended the introduction of name badges containing the full names of staff at Letterkenny University Hospital.
Donegal Daily revealed last week how some staff have contacted their union, SIPTU, over the issue.
It follows incidents in which staff say they were contacted out of hours by people they encountered in the hospital.
SIPTU have since written to the HR Department at the hospital asking them to reconsider using both the first name and surnames of staff on ID badges.
They also claimed in the letter that some staff were being put under pressure to wear the badges by management.
However, a spokesperson for Saolta, the management body of the hospital, said the badges are being introduced to help patients while they are in the care of the hospital.
A spokesperson said “The use of name badges is designed to assist the patient to understand who is delivering their care, name badges are common practice in healthcare settings.
“LUH will continue to engage with staff on any issues of concern through the staff engagement group.”
