Donegal star Daniel O’Donnell has joined the outpouring of tributes to the late country music star, Kris Kristofferson.
The American singer passed away peacefully at his home in Hawaii, aged 88.
Known for countless country hits like “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Sunday Morning Coming Down” and acting titles including “A Star is Bron”, Kristofferson’s talents were respected worldwide.
“Saddened to hear of the passing of Kris Kristofferson,” said a tribute from Daniel O’Donnell today.
“He was one of the greatest singer songwriters ever. I had the privilege of recording and singing a number of his songs over the years. May he rest in peace. Sympathies to all his family.”
“What a great loss. What a great writer. What a great actor. What a great friend,” said Dolly Parton. “I will always love you.”
Barbara Streisand, who co-starred with Kris in “A Star is Born” said: “The first time I saw Kris performing at the Troubadour club in L.A. I knew he was something special. Barefoot and strumming his guitar, he seemed like the perfect choice for a script I was developing, which eventually became A Star Is Born.”
Recalling a special concert singing together in 2019, Streisand wrote: “He was as charming as ever, and the audience showered him with applause. It was a joy seeing him receive the recognition and love he so richly deserved.”
Kristofferson is survived by his wife Lisa, his eight children, and seven grandchildren.
