Donegal County Council is progressing with plans to turn the old garda station in Malin into social housing.
The former barracks and adjoining sergeant’s dwelling are due to be renovated into two 3-bed family homes.
The site currently sits derelict in the heart of Malin, where there are 11 applicants on the housing waiting list.
Two small rear extensions are proposed as part of the development.
Donegal County Councillors today passed a report on the project and were told that “the redevelopment and introduction of life into the garda station and adjoining sergeants house in Malin Town will enhance the area and provide a pleasant and safe living environment that is aesthetically pleasing for the dwelling occupants and neighbours. Given the properties’ proximity to retail, educational, and recreational options in the village, the redevelopment of this site for residential use will offer an appropriate location for residential use which will help sustain the local community and economy.”
