Letterkenny’s Cathedral Quarter launched their tenth anniversary booklet in Dillons Hotel last night.
The booklet was launched by Mr Eugene McKeever MBE, owner of the McKeever Hotel Group, who outlines the groups achievement in the past decade whilst looking forward to the future.
Master of Ceremonies for the night was Brian Walsh from the Letterkenny Community and Heritage Group while Evelyn Gallagher accompanied by Maria McCormack began our celebrations with songs of old Letterkenny.
Next up was Cathedral Quarter chairperson who outlined what was in the new booklet and remembered those who contributed to the project but are sadly no longer with us including Jim Lynch who first envisaged the idea more than thirty years ago when he served on Letterkenny Town Council.
Sean was followed by Letterkenny Mayor Cllr Gerry McMonagle who paid tribute to the group and to Council officials who work closely in the project.
Cllr McMonagle recalled his conversation with property owner, the late Joe Harvey about the dereliction in the locality more than ten years ago was the spark that lit the fuse to its regeneration.
Cathedral Quarter social media made up of Martin Gallagher, Andrii Kotkovets, Olena Melynk, Valentyna Melynk and Sean Purser produced a short video for the occasion.
In launching the booklet, Mr Eugene McKeever, he said he was seen Church Lane blossom during the past ten years of their ownership of Dillons Hotel and added a ‘rising tide lifts all boats’. The memorable evening was brought to a close with a wonderful rendition of the ‘Church Lane’ sung by Maria McCormack.
