A Co Donegal man who allegedly allowed almost €23,000 of crime cash to flow through his bank account is to stand trial.

Dylan Laughlin appeared at Letterkenny District Court facing just one charge.

Detective Garda Gerard McCready told the court that he arrested the 30-year-old at Letterkenny Courthouse under Section 10 of the Criminal Justice Act.

When charged and cautioned, Laughlin, of Windmill View, Glencar Letterkenny, made no reply.

He is charged that between May 3rd, 2022 and March 3rd, 2023, at AIB, Upper Main Street, Letterkenny, he did engage in converting, transferring, handling, acquiring, possessing or using property that is the proceeds of criminal activity.

This property was cash lodgements to his AIB account accumulating to €22,958 over the period of 3rd of May, 2022 to 3rd of March, 2023 while knowing that it was the proceeds of criminal conduct or being reckless as to whether or not the said property was the proceeds of criminal conduct.

Garda Sergeant Jim Collins said Gardai had no objection to bail for the accused but did require a number of conditions.

These include that Laughlin sign on three times a week at Letterkenny Garda Station, provide Gardai with a mobile phone number and be contactable 24 hours a day.

Sergeant Collins said that the Director of Public Prosecutions had recommended trial by indictment at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

He asked for the case to be adjourned to November 25th next for the service of a book of evidence.

Laughlin was also granted legal aid.
