Bunbeg Coast Guard was tasked earlier this evening by the Main Head Coastguard following reports from members of the public of a kayaker in distress west of Bloody Foreland Point.
The boat team carried out a detailed search of the area whilst the drone team and members of our shore team searched the coastline.
Following an extensive search, it was determined that nobody was in need of assistance and all resources were stood down.
Whilst returning to station the boat team was re-tasked, this time to assist a small powerboat in difficulty close to Gola Island.
The boat team arrived on scene within minutes, before towing the vessel back to Bunbeg Harbour.
This was the Bunbeg team’s third tasking in the past 24hours.
A spokesperson added “We’d like to take this opportunity to remind the public of the importance of calling the Coast Guard if they believe someone is in danger. Never assume someone else has, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.”
