Donegal community groups scoop prizes at Croke Park

The Glór na nGael Competition awards were presented at a special event in Croke Park on Saturday, with three local winners sharing €9,000 in prizes.

Coiste Forbartha Dhobhair Teo received a total of €4,000 for securing second place in two categories: An Gaeltacht (the Gaeltacht) and The Youth (youth).

€2,000 was awarded to the Líonra Leitir Ceanainn who won the Donegal County Council prize.

A proposal by Togra Fiontar & Cultúr Uladh CTR took first place and €3,000 in the Environmental Protection, Heritage Conservation & Spirituality category.

GAA President, Jarlath Burns, presented the awards. Representatives of from many of the sponsors were also in attendance, including Foras na Gaeilge, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media, and Údarás an Gaeltachta.

The Glór na nGael national competition is open to committees or community groups whose main goal is to promote the Irish language within the community. €400,000 in prizes was awarded between 2018 and 2023.

The Glór na nGael competition was founded over 60 years ago to recognize the work of committees and community groups across the country in promoting the Irish language.
