A special ceremony was held in Letterkenny’s Conwal Cemetery this afternoon, remembering Ireland’s fallen veterans who died on UN peacekeeping missions.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the opening of the memorial within Conwal Cemetary dedicated to the 97 Irish people who have lost their lives on these missions.
The Irish United Nations Veterans Association (IUNVA) hosted the ceremony, honouring members of the Irish Defence Forces, An Garda Siochana, as well as civilian personnel killed while on UN peacekeeping duty.
Irish citizens have died while on peacekeeping duty in Europe, the Middle East, The Congo, Cyprus, Lebanon, Somalia, Sarajevo, East-Timor, Liberia and Haiti.
