Several trailblazing women from across Donegal have been nominated for the third annual Goss.ie Women of the Year Awards.

The awards recognise women across multiple genres, including business, the arts, social justice and sports.

Letterkenny barrister and journalist Ciara Doherty (pictured) is nominated for a News Industry Award for her work in Irish broadcasting.

Ciara first gained prominence on Ireland AM, which she co-hosted for 10 years before she made the move to The Tonight Show in 2020 – replacing Ivan Yates.

Known for her professionalism and versatility, Ciara has earned a strong reputation in Irish media for her ability to connect with audiences on both lighter topics and serious matters.

Greencastle’s Laura Bonner is in the running for Businesswoman of the Year.

The Muff Liquor Company founder has been hailed for the growth of her brand since 2018 and the ability to secure investment from high-profile celebrities such as Russell Crown, Laura Whitmore and Ronan Keating. As well as having premium investors, the quality of the Muff Liquor brand is also highly rated.

Speaking on her nomination, Laura told DonegalWoman.ie. “I am incredibly honoured to be nominated for Best Businesswoman of the Year by Goss.ie, especially alongside such accomplished and inspiring entrepreneurs whom I deeply admire and respect. Being shortlisted is a privilege in itself, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be recognized in this way.”

The Sportwoman of the year category features two athletes with strong Donegal links.

Bronze medal winning Olympian Mona McSharry, who trained in Ballyshannon, is recognised for her success in the Paris Olympics as well as a series of impressive results at the European Championships, where she secured multiple medals, including gold in the 100-meter breaststroke.

In the same category of Sportswoman of the Year is Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal. The duo claimed a silver medal in the women’s B 3,000m individual pursuit at the Paralympic Games. Katie-George, whose father John is from Mountcharles, is visually impaired, competes as the stoker, while Eve serves as her sighted pilot.

Gweedore’s Eve Belle is a member of the Irish Women in Harmony group nominated in the Artist of the Year category. The female music collective also includes RuthAnne, Una Healy, Erica Cody, Aimée, and Caroline Corr, to name just a few.

The Goss.ie Women of the Year award winners will be revealed at a star-studded event hosted by well-known broadcaster and entrepreneur Gráinne Seoige on Saturday, October 5th, at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dún Laoghaire.
