The helipad at Letterkenny University Hospital has resumed operations following a recent safety alert.
The Rescue 118 helicopter crew went offline from the helipad following a recent inspection which highlighted a number of malfunctioning lights. Concerns were raised over fire extinguishers and also the level training of staff operating in the vicinity of the helipad.
A follow-up audit yesterday gave the green light for the restriction to be lifted.
Rescue 118 carried out a successful landing at the hospital this morning following an operation in Arranmore Island.
Donegal Daily yesterday revealed how the Coast Guard helicopter had been forced move its landing site to Letterkenny Airfield in Bonagee – more than three kilometres from Letterkenny University Hospital. Ambulances then transported patients through the town’s busiest thoroughfares, including the Four Lane, to the emergency department.
