Advance works have started at the Creamery and Ballyraine Roundabouts in Letterkenny ahead of the installation of new traffic light systems.
The next part of the N56 Letterkenny Urban Active Travel project will provide signalised junctions replacing the Ballyraine Halls roundabout and the Creamery Roundabout.
The lights will cover key areas where motorists experience congestion travelling to/from the Ramelton Road (R245) and the Business Park area.
In February 2024 the TII allocated €575,000 in funding for the project, with €100,000 allocated to the Letterkenny- Milford MD to carry out advance works.
Those works, which began this week, include the demolition of tanks and drainage improvements at the Creamery roundabout, duct relocation and vegetation removal at the Ballyraine Roundabout, as well as the relocation of an ESB pole.
Councillors were told that these works will be programmed to minimise disruption to the public.
The new traffic lights will be linked with the Polestar roundabout to allow co-ordinated traffic movements at peak times.
