Lough Swilly RNLI has praised a member of the public who raised the alarm about people in the water yesterday, saying that it’s better to be safe than sorry.
A call-out was issued to the Buncrana lifeboat crew yesterday evening after two people were reported in the water quite a distance from shore.
Upon arriving at the scene, the Inshore Lifeboat Crew discovered that the individuals were in fact two surfers enjoying the waves. After speaking with them to make sure they were in good spirits, the crew returned safely to Ned’s Point.
“We would like to commend the member of the public who raised the alarm as we would always much rather launch and find that all is well than not launch at all,” a spokesperson said.
“Remember if you’re in difficulty in or on the water, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.”
