Skygazers have been advised to look north tonight as there’s a chance of a northern lights show.
Crisp cold weather and clear skies over Donegal are expected to make for ideal viewing conditions of the aurora borealis phenomenon.
According to the UK Met Office, a coronal mass ejection (CME) is forecast to arrive at Earth Thursday night into Friday.
“Aurora sightings may become visible across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England and similar geomagnetic latitudes,” forecasters said.
Meanwhile, there is also a chance of grass frost overnight as temperatures in northern counties dip to 1C.
Met Eireann is forecasting a dry and cold night with “mostly clear skies and light winds”.
“Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees with a few mist patches forming and perhaps even a touch of grass frost,” they said.
