Donegal County Council has been urged to move forward with safety works at Lough Salt, as fears grow over another potential collision.
Two recent accidents on the notorious route have led to “unrest building” in the Carrigart area, according to Cllr Liam Blaney.
Cllr Blaney said motorists feared that another car could break through the temporary barrier.
“We all know the history of Lough salt and how dangerous it can be,” Cllr Blaney told Tuesday’s meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford MD.
“When you go to the edge of the water it gets very deep, very quickly.”
Cllr Blaney was told that works to rebuild the wall are due to commence this week and that the council will seek further funding for other works such as widening the bend.
“Hopefully this wall will be built very soon and will alleviate concerns,” Cllr Blaney said.
