Relay for Life Donegal has revealed a grand total of €150,025.54 raised in 2024!
This brings the total amount raised in Donegal over the past 12 Relay events to a remarkable €1,825,000.
The annual event, which took place in Letterkenny in May, culminated in a special ceremony of music, awards, and remembrance at the Mount Errigal Hotel.
All teams, volunteers, entertainers and schools were praised for their exceptional efforts. The ‘Roll Call for Relay’ school challenge, supported by Lee Gooch on Highland Radio, raised €11,000 from approximately 40 schools across Donegal.
Steadfast supporters Eileen Tourish and Ena Barrett were recognised for their exceptional contributions, with each receiving the Gordy Klatt Award – Relay for Life Donegal’s highest honour.
Ciara Hughes from the Irish Cancer Society shared her gratitude to all who make Relay for Life a success in Donegal each year. Ms Hughes explained that the charity spent €279,000 in Donegal last year to support various initiatives and research projects.
In 2023, donors funded 221 nights of night nursing for 63 patients in Donegal, 655 volunteer drives to bring 74 patients to and from chemotherapy, 145 counselling sessions and 908 contacts to the support line.
As the 2024 event came to a close, the committee announced the dates for the 2025 Relay for Life – mark your calendars for May 24th and 25th, 2025!
