There will be major changes to the GAA senior inter-county schedule in 2025.
All current preseason tournaments, like the Dr McKenna Cup, have been cancelled on a one-year trial basis, with the GAA to review the matter again before 2026.
Plans are also in place to change the format of the All-Ireland Championship from 2026 on.
The current format has faced criticism from many due to the volume of games, as well as the fact that teams with as many as three losses in their All-Ireland campaign can still reach the quarter final stage.
The new proposal under consideration would divide the final 16 teams into winners’ and losers’ groups in the last 16 stage.
The four victors in the winners’ group (Round 2A) would advance to the All-Ireland Quarter-Finals directly, while the four losing teams in that round would then face the winners of the last 16 losers’ round (Round 2B) for a chance to advance.
