Three candidates are believed to be in the race for just two nominations at next week’s Fianna Fail General Election Convention in Letterkenny.
The selection will take place following the counting of members’ votes at the event in the Clanree Hotel, Letterkenny, on Thursday night.
Six candidates have put their names forward to date. They are: former TD and MEP, Pat ‘the Cope’ Gallagher, Minister Charlie McConalogue, Senator Niall Blaney, Ben Harkin and councillors Donal ‘Mandy Kelly’ and Michael Naughton.
However, it is understood three of those will withdraw from the race on the night, leaving what should be a fascinating battle between the remaining three to win just two nominations to contest the upcoming election.
