Seven Donegal firefighters are gearing up for a momentous event when they take part in a three-day charity cycle alongside firefighters from the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).
The Donegal volunteers will join 80 firefighters embarking on this journey on 9th September, starting at the American Embassy in Dublin and concluding at the 9/11 Garden of Remembrance in Kinsale, Co. Cork.
This event holds special significance as it coincides with the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Organised in collaboration with the FDNY charity Friends of Firefighters, Inc., the cycle aims to raise vital funds for national children’s cancer charity Aoibheann’s Pink Tie and Friends of Firefighters, Inc, a charity founded after the 9/11 tragedy to support firefighters and their families offering both financial assistance and mental health support.
The Donegal contingent making their way to the starting line in September includes Conor Mc Guigan and Ronan O Donnell who are both stationed in Letterkenny, Conal Kane from Ballyshannon, Eugene Mc Cafferty from Milford, Seamus McLaughlin from Carndonagh, Mickey Donaghey (retired) from Buncrana, and Eddie Doherty from Carndonagh driving the support vehicle.
The Donegal Firefighters Association encourages the public to donate generously to this important cause. Donations can be made through the following link: https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/DonegalFirefightersAssociation
