Donegal County Council has installed two new ‘BigBelly Bins’ at the Rathmullan shorefront in a bid to tackle litter issues.
The large-capacity smart bins hold five times the waste of regular bins. They are also fully enclosed to ensure there is no overflow and no waste spills out due to birds or windy conditions.
The have been installed at the beach car park this week.
Cllr Pauric McGarvey said he was delighted to see the installation.
“Thanks to Donegal County Council for their support and the roads team for installing them and also to the Rathmullan Tidy Towns & Clean Coasts for their continued hard work!,” said Cllr McGarvey.
Last month, Cllr McGarvey told the council that the number of bins and the size of the bins is not sufficient in Rathmullan, where Tidy Towns volunteers were struggling with huge amounts of rubbish being dumped daily.
