A status yellow rain warning for Donegal will not now come into effect until 10pm tonight.
The alert was due to begin at 3pm, which also includes counties Clare, Cork, Kerry, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.
Met Éireann, however, is warning of difficult travelling conditions and potential localised flooding from tonight until 10am tomorrow.
According to the state meteorological service, patchy rain and drizzle across Ulster this morning will largely die out to allow some bright or sunny intervals to develop for a time.
However, it will become overcast this afternoon with outbreaks of rain beginning to move in from the Atlantic, turning heavy and persistent by evening with the chance of spot flooding. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees with strengthening southerly winds.
Tonight will be wet and windy with outbreaks of heavy rain also bringing the possibility of localised flooding. Lowest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds.
Tomorrow will see another wet and blustery start with a band of rain pushing gradually eastwards over the province with the continued chance of spot flooding. A clearance to sunny spells and isolated showers will follow from the west during the morning and early afternoon. Maximum temperatures of 18 to 20 degrees in fresh southerly breezes, strong at the coast.
