Gaoth Dobhair : 1-7(10)
Naomh Adhmahnáin : 0-9(9)
Having lost their opening game to Four Masters, the visitors came to O’Donnell Park under a little bit of pressure but this hard earned victory over St. Eunans who had beaten both Kilcar and Naomh Conaill put Gweedore in a much more comfortable position with a home game to come in two weeks.
The home team made seven changes from the team that started against Naomh Conaill last week while Ciaran Moore started for the first time in this year’s championship having made a brief appearance last week.
Lee McMonagle and Kieran Tobin had early St.Eunans points and in between those Daire O Baoill kicked a super free from near the sideline.
Gweedore then finished off a quick breakaway with an Eoin De Burca goal, Danny Curran providing the final pass to set up the chance, 0-02 to 1-01.
Eoin Dowling replied immediately for Eunan’s, Aodan Breathnach responded for Gweedore but Conor O Donnell Jnr kicked three excellent points in a row to put the home team ahead by 0-06 to 1-02.
Just before the break Gweedore were level, Daithi Roberts converting a 45 after Eunans had lost possession with Shaun Patton out of his goal area and Aaron Deeney had just got back to deflect the ball wide. The teams went in level at half-time, 0-06 to 1-03.
It took eight minutes before we had a score in the second-half, an excellent effort from Anthony Gallagher to put St. Eunans ahead again. Gweedore hit back immediately with points from Ethan Harkin and Daire O Baoill to lead by 1-05 to 0-07.
Lee McMonagle got St Eunan’s level but Ethan Harkin’s free had Gweedore in front as time ticked away. Stephen McFadden increased the lead and despite a late score from Conor O Donnell Snr to leave a point init Gweedore held on to win by a point 1-07 to 0-09 and an important victory.
