Donegal will field a very strong team of athletes this weekend at the national Community Games finals in Carlow.
Manus O’Donnell, Community Games County Chairman, said over 30 Donegal boys and girls from various disciplines will take part.
“When you think of the likes of Mark English, Chloe McGee and Rachel Darragh who all took part in Community Games and they are Olympic heroes that we are all so proud of. All our young athletes from the county also dream of becoming Olympians,” he said.
Mr O’Donnell also went on to say to the current crop of Donegal competitors that they are all winners for managing to qualify for the finals. He also took the opportunity to give a big mention to the Friel sisters, from Fanad, who will both take part and to their proud coach and dad, Paul Friel. Mr Friel said it was a weekend his family would never forget.
The chairman had a special word to County PRO, Tony McCarry, who 50 years ago this year won his first Gold medal at the Community Games in Monsney in the U8 80m.
