A former Raphoe star was part of the Ireland hockey team that recorded a record win against Malta, on a scoreline of 25-0.

Convoy native Luke Witherow, who now plays with Banbridge, is a student at North West Regional College in Derry.

Ireland, with a World Ranking of 9, took on World Ranked 72 Malta, in the fourth quarter-final of the European B Qualifiers in Sports Campus Ireland yesterday evening.

Ireland also came into this tournament on the back of five Olympic Pool matches and 16 FIH Pro League matches played earlier this year.

Ireland now advance to a semi-final against Poland tomorrow, as the teams bid to reach the 2025 EuroHockey Championships in Monchengladbach in Germany.
