People are being warned to stay out of the water as strong winds, very high tides and heavy rain hit Ireland this week due to post-tropical storm Hurricane Ernesto.
Met Eireann has issued a high tide advisory for all coasts from noon today (Wednesday) until noon Friday.
The RNLI lifesavers in Bundoran said that conditions at Bundoran Beach were particularly dangerous yesterday evening due to current swell and wind conditions.
“RNLI Bundoran crew members earlier observed young people who had entered the water and quickly reacted to offer safety advice,” they said.
A combination of strong onshore winds, high spring tides and significant waves may result in localised coastal flooding and wave overtopping in the coming days.
A Status Yellow wind warning has been issued for Galway and Mayo.
The remnants of Hurricane Ernesto will lead to stormy weather on Wednesday and Thursday as it tracks over Ireland and the UK.
A Status Yellow gale warning is already in place for marine traffic, with winds to reach gale force 8 at times.
