Mona McSharry’s marvellous bronze medal win was among the top highlights of RTE’s Olympic Games coverage in the past fortnight.
621,000 viewers tuned in for the Sligo/Ballyshannon swimmer’s success in the 100m women’s breaststroke final on Monday 29th July.
In all, 3.4 million people watched the record-breaking journey of Team Ireland’s 133 athletes in Paris. On RTÉ Player, there were 7.2 million streams of the Olympic Games from 24th July to 11th August.
The 64 women and 69 men competed across 14 sports, winning 7 Medals, posting personal and seasonal bests in many cases as well as progressing in their individual competitions.
Kellie Harrington winning gold in the women’s 60kg Boxing final scooped RTE’s peak viewership of 1.4 million.
Rashidat Adeleke’s 400m final and the 400m women’s relay also racked almost 1 million views for each event.
Other TV highlights for sports fans in Ireland across the Games on RTÉ2 included Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan’s back-to-back Olympic-winning performance in the lightweight rowing on Friday 2 August was seen by a peak audience of 429,000.
Yesterday’s homecoming, broadcast live on RTÉ One from O’Connell Street, welcomed the athletes back home with an average audience of over 200,000 and 43,000 streams to date on RTÉ Player.
