Actor Paul Mescal’s father, Paul Mescal, is taking on the role of a disgruntled Donegal barman this month in the new play Are Ya Dancin’?
The sold-out Showband era musical is making its national debut on the 3Olympia Theatre stage from August 27 to 31, 2024.
Set in Donegal in the 1960’s golden era of music, Are Ya Dancin’? follows Tommy O’Neill (Seán Mac Mathúna) who finds himself at the helm of an up-and-coming showband. As his star rises, he struggles both professionally and personally against the restrictive societal backdrop of the time.
This lively theatrical spectacle is steeped in nostalgia and is one of the largest home-grown, original Irish productions to hit the national stage for years.
Paul Mescal senior, father of the Oscar-nominated son of the same name, will play bar owner Seamie McDaid. Mr Mescal is an acclaimed actor in his own right, having acted with a number of drama groups alongside his teaching career in Kildare.
