An Irish man has been shot dead by police in Malta.
It followed a stand-off after initial reports of the murder of a woman.
Edward William Johnston, a 50-year-old resident in Malta, was fatally shot by police following a three-hour stand-off in the seaside village of St Julian’s.
The body of a 48-year-old woman, named as Nicolette Grixti, was found in an apartment complex in the village of Birkirkara.
Police arrived at the apartment complex at around 2am this morning, where they found Ms Grixti’s body.
Mr Johnston was identified as the partner of Ms Grixti.
