It was a great day yesterday for young Donegal athletes at the Community Games regional finals in Athlone.
An impressive 17 participants from U8 to U12 from the county qualified for the National Finals in Carlow in two weeks time.
In the U8 60m Hurdles, Grace Bourke from Ballyshannon won Silver after running a fabulous race with a very proud mum and dad on the sideline. Grace’s Brother Micheal, who was in the U12 600m, ran a great race but just missed out on the medals.
Megan Friel from Fanad won an impressive Gold in a very close finish in the U8 60m race. All other athletes performed exceptionally well on the day and did their county proud.
County Manager, Tony McCarry said it was great day all round in Athlone
“The sun was shining and all our athletes performed very well. Congratulations to all and the experience of the Regional Finals will help all these young athletes going forward,” he said.
