Two of Ireland’s Olympic heroes will be the country’s flagbearers at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics.
After their medal-winning exploits in the pool, Daniel Wiffen and Mona McSharry will carry the Irish tricolour through Paris and the iconic Stade de France.
Ballyshannon Marlins member McSharry delivered Ireland’s first medal of the Paris games in the 100m breaststroke, while Wiffen brilliantly took home a gold and bronze from the 800m and 1500m freestyle events.
They will lead the Irish contingent into the Stade de France for the closing ceremony, which is set to get underway at 8pm on Sunday evening.
Plenty of dramatic flair is expected, as director Thomas Jolly – who directed the opening ceremony – is also in charge of the closing ceremony.
