A Killybegs woman is set to make her mark on the international stage once again as she prepares to compete in the World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Mary O’Callaghan, a seasoned athlete and coach with Killybegs Athletic Club, is flying out with her daughter Ciara Kearns who are both part of the Irish team.
No stranger to high-level competition, Mary previously clinched a silver medal with the Irish relay team at the inaugural European Indoor Masters Athletics Championships in Birmingham in 1997. She also represented Ireland at the World Championships in Brisbane, Australia four years later.
This year, Mary will be competing in the over 70s 100m, and her home club, Killybegs Athletic Club, is extending their best wishes for a successful competition.
Adding to the family’s sporting achievements, Mary’s daughter, Ciara Kearns, will be competing in the over 40 Long Jump. Having secured a silver medal at the last championships in Finland, she is expected to be a strong contender.
The competition kicks off on Tuesday 13th August.
