Kelly McGrory’s family are getting ready for the most special of nights tonight.
The Donegal athlete will be part of Ireland’s medal bid in the 4x400m women’s relay final at the Stade de France tonight.
Her team could also be boosted by the presence of Rhasidat Adeleke in the relay final, after she narrowly missed out on a medal in the individual 400m final last night – but Adeleke’s participation depends on her recovery.
However it was the brilliant combined efforts of McGrory, as well as Sharlene Mawdsley, Sophie Becker and Phil Healy that got Ireland to the final with a genuine shot at Olympic silverware.
For her family, it’s been the rollercoaster ride of a lifetime as they will be ready to watch Kelly go one more time in tonight’s final.
“There (are) just no words for the rollercoaster of emotions we are going through here in Paris,” Kelly’s mum, Mary posted.
“The pride, the love, the admiration for our amazing daughter Kelly Mc Grory is just overwhelming. So we will let the pictures say it all for us.”
“What these four girls Sophie, Phil, Kelly and Sharlene- Team Ireland 4x400m Women’s Relay – (have) achieved is legendary, it’s dreams come true.”
The 4×400 women’s relay final is set to start just after 8pm Irish time tonight.
