A Donegal business owner has raised serious road safety concerns again after an incident in Fintown.
Chad Lefler, owner of Yer Man’s Coffee Cove, has been witnessing dangerous driving from his roadside coffee shop for years.
A recent incident, he said, involved a “speedster” driving up on a footpath to overtake another car.
It’s the same footpath used by pedestrians and children each day.
An average of 3,000 vehicles pass through the village each day. The speed limit is 60kph but a traffic audit published last year showed speeds of up to 126kph within the speed limit zone.
Lefler took to social media to voice his frustration at the delay in action.
“The council must not care, as I have written countless times to someone in their organisation explaining that traffic calming needs to happen,” he said.
Speaking to Donegal Daily, he said: “We’ve been told for months now that “they” are studying it. Studying what? When someone gets injured or killed how they were too slow to do anything about the 10 or 12 overtakings I see a day here?
“They’ve put their heads in the sand until something drastic happens.”
