Ireland’s Daniel Wiffen etched his name into Irish sporting history today with his performance in the Olympic 10k open water marathon swim in the Seine.
The Armagh swimmer finished in 18th place with a time of 1:57.20.
He has become the first Irish person to ever compete in the gruelling event at an Olympic Games.
He now also holds the distinction of being the first Irish athlete to compete in different aquatic disciplines at a single Games.
Wiffen added Olympic gold and bronze medals in the pool last week.
