The government has approved a €24 million redress plan for the families of those who lost their lives in the Stardust nightclub fire in 1981.
If the money is divided equally, this means that each family will receive €500,000 for each loved one who perished in the tragedy.
Forty-eight people died and more than 200 were injured in the blaze in the Stardust nightclub in Artane, north Dublin. Those killed were aged between 16 and 28.
Fresh inquests at the Coroner’s Court returned the decision of “unlawful killing”. Taoiseach Simon Harris issued an official state apology to the families following the historic verdict.
