A group of Mary’s Meals volunteers have embarked on a 230km walking challenge from Malin to Knock this week.
The annual ‘Step to Feed the Next Child’ fundraiser raises money for children’s feeding programmes in some of the world’s poorest countries.
Step by step, the volunteers made their way through Inishowen yesterday, but were in good spirits despite the rain.
For the past eleven years walks to Knock Shrine have taken place, to raise awareness of, and funds for Mary’s Meals. This year there are teams taking off from seven locations across Ireland, while Board Director Fr Eamonn Kelly of Donegal is supporting further down the country.
People of Donegal can get involved in the Walk to Knock today, Thursday, by joining volunteers at Letterkenny’s Bernard McGlinchey Town Park. The walk takes place from 12.30pm to 14.30pm and everyone is welcome to do as many loops as they wish.
Bucket collections are taking place along each of the routes. All donations are greatly appreciated. It costs €22 to give a child a meal each day in school for a school year and every eleven cents raised provides a meal.
