Finn Valley’s Mark English has run an amazing race to qualify for the semi-finals of the Olympic Games 800 metres in Paris.
The Letterkenny man came in second in his heat to the highly rated Gabriel Tual in a time of 1:45.15.
Tual, the fifth fastest 800m runner of all time, was just ahead of English in a time of 1:45.13.
Dublin-based doctor English went out strong form the start and stayed in third place for most of the race before a late surge in the last 100 metres saw him take second place in the race.
The semi-final will be a step up once again for English but his heat showing has already impressed many at Paris.
