Letterkenny boy Conall Shiels is beaming with pride today after being formally welcomed to An Garda Síochána as an honorary recruit.
Ten-year-old Conall, from Conwal, is the son of Kieran and Aoife and is now Donegal’s newest Little Blue Hero.
Conall was born with the life-limiting condition of congenital hydrocephalus but has defied all the odds to reach major milestones.
Over the years Conall has inspired major fundraising initiatives to help children’s hospitals and charities across the country. The High 5 For Conall campaign also brought people together for a range of events in 2019.
Gardaí in Letterkenny were delighted to present their friend Conall with his shiny new uniform today.
A Facebook post said: “We would like to introduce you to our newest member of An Garda Síochána in Donegal, Honorary Garda Conall Pio Shiels from Conwal, Letterkenny who was presented with his uniform today by Detective Garda Donal Callaghan and Sergeant Gráinne Pio Mc Loone.
“D/Garda Callaghan & Sgt Mc Loone were first introduced to Conal by D/Garda Callaghan’s mother who has nursed him since he was a baby. Conal has more recently been nursed by Sgt McLoone’s sister. Both nurses are part of a pool of nurses who provide great care for our Little Blue Hero, Honorary Garda Conall Shiels.
“Welcome H/Garda Conall! We are all looking forward to meeting you and to working with you in the future!”
