Walkers and hikers have been asked not to climb Errigal Mountain this Wednesday and Thursday as a helicopter will be carrying out vital repair works in the area.
Large sections of a €600,000 path up the famous mountain were washed away earlier this year after heavy rain and flooding.
Now a massive operation is in place to repair the damage to the mountain which has undergone a huge surge in its popularity with walkers and hikers.
An estimated 50,000 people make the trek up the mountain each year.
A spokesperson for the Errigan Mountain website pleaded with people not refrain from making any journeys up the 751m (2,464ft) on Wednesday and Thursday.
A spokesperson said “The helicopter will be working on Errigal on Wednesday 7th August (and possibly Thursday 8th).
“We ask the public not to climb the mountain on these days as it will not be safe to walk under the helicopter while it is lifting materials.
“A stop/go system will also be in operation on the road adjacent to the car park on these days. We would appreciate your cooperation over the next few days.”
Errigal is the highest of seven peaks in Donegal’s Derryveagh mountains, known as the Seven Sisters.
